Painting

Munsell Colour Wheel:

Well, there’s not much to say about this.  We were to use paint trays and starting form the outside and working inwards, were to mix the colours to create this colour wheel.  This wheel is different than the standard colour wheel in that it shows a more accurate portrayal of colour and how it mixes.  The standard colour wheel ( as used in my lesson plan ) isn’t really that accurate if followed to the tee.

Tints:

To shade: I started with the primary colours down the middle and slowly added black to the colour, resulting in shading of each colour.

To tint: I started with white and slowly added the primary colour.

This activity was worthwhile, just to get familiar with mixing, tinting and shading paint.

Georgia O’Keeffe inspired painting:

Most people in my class took their inspiration from a picture, however I took my own inspiration and create this.  Again, it wasn’t until this was displayed in the hallway of the Maclaurin building did I realize the affect.

This was yet another project that I had no pictures that stood out to me so I started with shading and tinting in green and worked outwards from there.  Looking at it now, and especially now that I took a picture of it, I can almost see texture.

If I am to use this activity in the future I will make sure that my students use large enough paint trays so as to be able to mix paint without it all mixing together which I had happen a few times.  I also realized how important it is when shading and tinting to clean our paintbrushes thoroughly as I found residual colour would mix with other colours that I didn’t want to mix.
